San Francisco, CA -  His Beatitude, Metropolitan Tikhon, made his first primatial visit to the Diocese of the West the weekend of June 22-23, 2013. His Beatitude and Archbishop Benjamin served the Vigil and Divine Liturgy of Pentecost together at Holy Trinity Cathedral, the oldest Orthodox parish in the Lower 48. Many of the Pacific Central Deanery clergy concelebrated the Vigil. A reception was held in the parish hall following the Vigil.

On Pentecost Sunday morning, the Metropolitan was warmly welcomed by His Eminence, Archbishop Benjamin and the cathedral dean, Archpriest John Takahashi. The customary Kneeling Vespers and a prayer service with procession followed the Liturgy. His Eminence presented gramotas to Ann Worobey of the St. Nicholas Church, Saratoga and Subdeacon Johann Morse of Holy Trinity in recognition of their many years of service to the Diocese of the West and their respective parishes. His Beatitude was presented with the gift of an eagle rug (orletz) that was specially prepared for him upon which is depicted an eagle soaring above the Capitol and the primate's cathedral of St. Nicholas, Washington DC.

The hierarchs served the Liturgy of the Day of the Holy Spirit at St. Nicholas Church, San Anselmo, CA. A wonderful luncheon was prepared in honor of the Metropolitan's visit and enjoyed by the many who came to pray and greet him that day. His Beatitude then visited the Kazan Skete in Santa Rosa and Fort Ross. The day ended with a prayer service and meal at the St. Seraphim Church in Santa Rosa. His Beatitude greatly admired the frescos that are being placed on the walls of the St. Seraphim Church.

We are very grateful for the Metropolitan's first visit to the West as primate and look forward to future visits.
